Her brother Susanoo, the story goes, had a wild and destructive temper — he ruined rice fields, defiled sacred halls, and even startled a weaving maiden so badly that she died. Furious and frightened, Amaterasu retreated into a cave called Ama-no-Iwato and sealed the entrance with a massive boulder.
