In Maya belief, Chaac is the god who governs rain. For generations, the Maya people depended on growing corn, and corn could not grow without rain — so Chaac held a place of deep respect in Maya culture. Legend says Chaac carried a flaming serpent-shaped staff, and whenever he swung it toward the clouds, thunder rolled and rain fell from the sky.
玛雅人相信，人与自然要互相尊重、互相感恩。每年播种季节，村里的人都会聚在一起，用新收的玉米做成食物，来到村里最古老的大树下，唱起感恩的歌谣，感谢恰克带来滋润庄稼的雨水。
The Maya believed that people and nature should respect and be grateful to one another. Every planting season, villagers would gather together, prepare food from the newly harvested corn, and come together beneath the village's oldest tree to sing songs of gratitude, thanking Chaac for the rain that nourished their crops.
