库丘林的传说记录在中世纪爱尔兰的手抄本里，是凯尔特神话中最著名的英雄。他原名"塞坦塔"，据说是光明之神鲁格的儿子。七岁那年，他独自打死了铁匠库林家一条凶猛无比的看门恶犬，为了赔偿铁匠的损失，他主动提出由自己顶替恶犬看家护院——从此人们都叫他"库丘林"，意思就是"库林的猎犬"。

The legend of Cú Chulainn comes from medieval Irish manuscripts and tells of Celtic mythology's most famous hero. Originally named Sétanta, he was said to be the son of the god of light, Lugh. At age seven, he single-handedly killed the blacksmith Culann's fierce guard dog. To make up for the loss, he offered to take the dog's place guarding the house himself — from then on, people called him Cú Chulainn, meaning "the Hound of Culann."

塞坦塔长大后，成了阿尔斯特王国最勇猛的战士。传说他一旦陷入极度愤怒的战斗状态，就会浑身颤抖、面容扭曲，变成一个连自己人都认不出的可怕战士——这种状态被称为"扭曲之力"。可是私底下的他，却是个信守承诺、极重情义的人。

As Sétanta grew up, he became the fiercest warrior in the kingdom of Ulster. Legend says that when he fell into an extreme battle fury, his whole body would shake and his face would twist beyond recognition, turning him into a warrior so terrifying even his own comrades couldn't recognize him — this state was called the "warp spasm." But in private life, he was someone who kept his word and valued loyalty above all.
