Fionn mac Cumhaill is the hero of the Fenian Cycle of Irish legend, and the band of warriors he leads is called the Fianna. The tale of the Salmon of Knowledge appears in The Boyhood Deeds of Fionn, an Irish text from around the twelfth century, and it takes place by the River Boyne in eastern Ireland. The same valley holds Newgrange, a great tomb built around 3200 BC, older than the pyramids of Giza.

北爱尔兰海边有一处奇景「巨人之路」，由约四万根六边形玄武岩石柱组成，传说是芬恩为了跨海去苏格兰而铺成的路。其实它是约五六千万年前火山熔岩冷却后形成的，1986年被列入世界自然遗产。

On the coast of Northern Ireland lies the Giants Causeway, a natural wonder made of about forty thousand six sided basalt columns. Legend says Fionn built it as a road to cross the sea to Scotland. In fact it was formed when lava cooled some fifty to sixty million years ago, and it became a World Heritage Site in 1986.
