精卫填海的故事出自《山海经·北山经》，是中国最古老的神话之一。传说炎帝有个小女儿叫女娃，有一天她去东海游玩，不幸被海浪卷走，再也没有回来。

Jingwei's story comes from the "Classic of Mountains and Seas", one of China's oldest myths. Legend says the Fire God Yandi had a young daughter named Nüwa, who one day went to play in the East Sea and was swept away by the waves, never to return.

女娃的灵魂没有消失，而是变成了一只小鸟，头上有花纹，白色的嘴，红色的爪子，叫声像在喊自己的名字"精卫"，从此人们就叫她精卫鸟。

Nüwa's spirit did not vanish. Instead, she transformed into a small bird, with patterned markings on its head, a white beak, and red feet. Its cry sounded like it was calling out its own name, "Jingwei", and so people came to call her the Jingwei bird.
