The legend of King Arthur and the sword in the stone first appeared in 12th and 13th-century English and French texts, polished and retold by writers for centuries, becoming one of the most famous legends in Western literature, still a beloved classic in British culture today.

传说英格兰老国王驾崩后没有继承人，魔法师梅林立起一块插着宝剑的石头，说谁能拔出这把剑，谁就是命中注定的新王。许多骑士都试过，却谁也拔不出来。

Legend says that when the old king of England died without an heir, the wizard Merlin set up a stone with a sword driven into it, declaring that whoever could draw the sword out was the destined new king. Many knights tried, but none could budge it.
