库库尔坎在玛雅语里意思是「羽蛇」，和阿兹特克人的羽蛇神克察尔科亚特尔属于同一类神明。墨西哥奇琴伊察遗址中心那座金字塔就叫库库尔坎神庙，它四面各有91级台阶，加上顶层平台，正好365级，对应一年的天数。

Kukulkan means Feathered Serpent in the Maya language, and he belongs to the same family of gods as Quetzalcoatl, the feathered serpent of the Aztecs. The great pyramid at the centre of Chichen Itza in Mexico is called the Temple of Kukulkan. Each of its four sides has 91 steps, and together with the platform at the top they make 365, the number of days in a year.

每年春分和秋分的傍晚，阳光照在库库尔坎神庙北面台阶的边缘，会投下一串三角形的光影，和台阶底部的石雕蛇头连在一起，看起来就像一条巨蛇从金字塔上缓缓爬下。奇琴伊察1988年被列入世界文化遗产，每到春分都会吸引成千上万的游客。

On the evenings of the spring and autumn equinoxes, sunlight falling on the edge of the north stairway of the Temple of Kukulkan casts a row of triangular shadows that join the stone serpent head at the bottom, so it looks as if a giant snake is slowly sliding down the pyramid. Chichen Itza became a World Heritage Site in 1988, and every spring equinox it draws thousands of visitors.
