The story of Loki cutting off the golden hair of Sif comes from the Skaldskaparmal, part of the Prose Edda written by the thirteenth century Icelandic scholar Snorri Sturluson. This mischief led to the making of several of the most famous treasures in Norse mythology, including Mjolnir, the hammer of the thunder god Thor.

在北欧维京时代的考古遗址里，出土过许多小小的锤形护身符，被认为就是雷神之锤的样子，人们戴着它祈求平安。也有学者认为，西芙那一头金色长发，可能象征着秋天成熟的金色麦田。

Many small hammer shaped amulets have been found at Viking Age sites across Scandinavia. They are believed to represent the hammer of Thor, and people wore them for protection. Some scholars also believe the golden hair of Sif may stand for fields of ripe golden grain at harvest time.
