Long ago there was a boy named Ma Liang. His family was very poor and could not afford even a single brush, but he loved drawing more than anything. Ma Liang practiced like this for several years, and his skill grew better and better, until an old man with a white beard appeared to him in a dream, moved by his dedication. The old man gave him a magic brush, saying that anything drawn with it, the moment it was finished, would come to life.
