Maui is the most famous hero in all of Polynesia, and his stories are told from the Maori of New Zealand to the people of Hawaii, with slightly different versions in each place. In the Maori version, Maui and his brothers snare the sun with ropes woven from flax; in Hawaii, the story takes place on the island named after him, Maui.

夏威夷毛伊岛上有一座大火山叫「哈雷阿卡拉」，在夏威夷语里意思是「太阳之家」，传说毛伊就是在这座山顶套住了太阳。如今这里是哈雷阿卡拉国家公园，在山顶看日出，是许多游客专程前来体验的风景。

On the island of Maui in Hawaii stands a great volcano called Haleakala, which means House of the Sun in Hawaiian. Legend says it was on this summit that Maui snared the sun. Today it is Haleakala National Park, and watching the sunrise from the summit is an experience many visitors travel there for.
