女娲造人的故事最早见于《山海经》和《淮南子》。传说女娲先用黄土精心捏出富贵的人，累了之后就用绳子蘸泥浆甩出普通人——这也是"贵人""贱民"传说的由来之一。

The story of Nüwa creating humans first appears in the Classic of Mountains and Seas and Huainanzi. Legend says she carefully shaped the wealthy from yellow clay by hand, then, growing tired, flicked mud from a rope to create ordinary people, an origin myth for social class itself.
