In ancient Egyptian mythology, Ra the sun god was one of the most important deities. Each day he sailed a shining golden solar boat, rising in the east and crossing the sky, bringing light and warmth to the whole land. The Egyptians believed that as long as Ra's boat safely reached the west, when night fell, a new day would soon follow.
可是白天的旅程只是拉工作的一半。夜幕降临后，他的船要驶入幽暗的地下世界，继续完成一段更加惊险的旅程，才能确保第二天清晨太阳照常升起。
But the daytime journey was only half of Ra's work. Once night fell, his boat had to sail into the dark underworld, continuing a far more perilous journey, to ensure that the sun would rise again as usual the next morning.
