故事里的那口"缸"，其实是古代北方常见的一种大水缸，用来储水或者养花养鱼，个头很大，装满水后，一个小孩子掉进去很难自己爬出来，也很难被大人从缸口直接拉出来。正因为这个背景，司马光那个"反过来想"的办法，才显得格外聪明。
The large vat in the story was a common type of big water jar used in northern China at the time, for storing water or keeping flowers and fish. It was so large that a child who fell in could hardly climb out alone, and was hard for an adult to simply reach in and pull out. It is exactly because of this that Sima Guang's idea of thinking the problem backward turned out to be so clever.
