The earliest written version of Sleeping Beauty comes from the French writer Charles Perrault, published in 1697 in his collection of fairy tales, Mother Goose Tales — 115 years before the more widely known German version by the Brothers Grimm. The story tells of a princess cursed by a wicked fairy to fall into a hundred-year sleep after pricking her finger on a spindle, only to be awakened at last by a prince's kiss — one of Europe's oldest and most beloved classic fairy tales.
