Snow White was first collected by the German Brothers Grimm in 1812 in their Children's and Household Tales. A popular but unconfirmed theory suggests the story may have been inspired by a real 18th-century German noblewoman, who lived in a small town known for both its glass industry and its nearby mining community — perhaps explaining where the magic mirror, glass coffin, and short-statured miners in the story came from, though this has never been proven. In 1937, Disney released the world's first full-length animated feature film based on this very story, cementing the warm, familiar version we know today.
