The chieftain banished him to herd sheep in a desolate northern region for nineteen years. Through it all, he kept his staff of authority in hand, never once abandoning his loyalty to his homeland. This true historical account, recorded in the Book of Han, has become one of the greatest symbols of unwavering integrity in Chinese history.
