阿兹特克人相信宇宙经历了五个太阳纪元，前四个都因灾难而毁灭。为了让第五个太阳——也就是现在这个——持续运行，他们相信必须用血祭"喂养"太阳神，这也是阿兹特克血祭仪式背后的宇宙观。
The Aztecs believed the universe had gone through five sun eras, the first four each ending in catastrophe. To keep the fifth sun, the one we live under now, burning, they believed the sun god had to be fed through blood sacrifice, the cosmology behind their ritual practices.
