《云雀和她的孩子》是一则古老的伊索寓言。古罗马作家奥卢斯·格利乌斯在约公元2世纪写成的《阿提卡之夜》第二卷第29章，把这个故事完整地讲了一遍，还说早在公元前2世纪，罗马诗人恩尼乌斯就把它写进了自己的诗里，诗的最后一句大意是：自己能做的事，别指望朋友替你做。

The Lark and Her Young Ones is an ancient Aesop fable. In the second century AD, the Roman writer Aulus Gellius retold the whole story in Book 2, Chapter 29 of his Attic Nights, and noted that back in the second century BC the Roman poet Ennius had already put it into verse, ending with a line that means: do not expect your friends to do what you can do yourself.

1668年，法国诗人拉封丹在《寓言诗》第四卷第22篇里重写了这个故事，题目叫《云雀和她的孩子们，以及田地的主人》。现实中的云雀真的把窝筑在麦田和草地的地面上，常见于欧亚大陆的农田；小云雀出壳后不到两个星期就会离开窝，在草丛里跟着妈妈走，要再过一段时间才能真正飞起来。

In 1668 the French poet Jean de La Fontaine retold the story as fable 22 of Book 4 of his Fables, under the title The Lark, Her Young Ones, and the Owner of a Field. Real skylarks really do build their nests on the ground in wheat fields and meadows, and they are common on farmland across Europe and Asia. Lark chicks leave the nest less than two weeks after hatching and follow their parents through the grass, and only some time later can they truly fly.
