This legend is believed to date back to 15th or 16th-century Portugal. Today, an ancient stone carving of the rooster can still be found in the center of Barcelos. Rooster-shaped souvenirs are found everywhere across Portugal, a symbol of the Portuguese love of life.

传说葡萄牙巴塞卢什小镇一名朝圣者被误认为小偷，被判绞刑。临刑前，他指着法官餐桌上的一只烤鸡，说这只鸡会为他的清白啼叫作证。

Legend says a pilgrim in the Portuguese town of Barcelos was mistaken for a thief and sentenced to hang. Before his execution, he pointed to a roasted rooster on the judges table, claiming it would crow to prove his innocence.
