「三打白骨精」出自明代小说《西游记》第二十七回，回目叫《尸魔三戏唐三藏 圣僧恨逐美猴王》。白骨精在书里被称为「尸魔」，她三次变化，分别变成了村姑、老妇和老翁。

The Three Beatings of the White Bone Demon comes from chapter twenty seven of the Ming dynasty novel Journey to the West, titled The Corpse Demon Three Times Tricks Tang Sanzang; the Holy Monk in Anger Dismisses the Monkey King. In the book the demon is called the Corpse Demon, and she changes three times: into a village girl, an old woman and an old man.

这段故事后来被改编成许多戏曲和影视作品。1960年绍剧《孙悟空三打白骨精》拍成电影后风靡全国；1986年版电视剧《西游记》里的这一集，也是很多中国观众记忆最深的片段之一。

The story was later adapted into many operas, films and television shows. The 1960 film of the Shaoxing opera Sun Wukong Three Times Strikes the White Bone Demon became hugely popular across China, and this episode of the 1986 television series Journey to the West is one of the best remembered by Chinese audiences.
