《三只山羊嘎啦嘎啦》是挪威最有名的民间故事之一，挪威语叫De tre bukkene Bruse。19世纪40年代，挪威的一对好朋友——阿斯比约恩森和莫埃走遍乡村，把老百姓讲的故事一个个记录下来，编成了《挪威民间故事集》，这个故事就收在里面。他们俩也因此被称为"挪威的格林兄弟"。

The Three Billy Goats Gruff is one of Norway's most famous folktales; in Norwegian it is called De tre bukkene Bruse. In the 1840s, two Norwegian friends, Peter Christen Asbjørnsen and Jørgen Moe, traveled the countryside writing down the stories ordinary people told, and gathered them into the Norwegian Folktales collection — which includes this one. Because of this work, the pair are often called "the Norwegian Brothers Grimm."

故事里住在桥下的"巨魔"（troll），是挪威民间故事里最常见的角色：它们住在大山里、桥底下或森林深处，力气大、脾气坏，却常常被聪明的人或动物打败。直到今天，走进挪威的纪念品商店，还能看到各种各样憨态可掬的巨魔小雕像。

The troll living under the bridge is one of the most common characters in Norwegian folktales. Trolls live in the mountains, under bridges, or deep in the forest; they are strong and bad-tempered, yet they are often outwitted by clever people or animals. Even today, walk into a Norwegian souvenir shop and you will find all kinds of funny little troll figures.
